Health and safety 'fundamental' to offshore wind roll-out

Ensuring employees are not left seeking advice from an accident at work solicitor could prove vital to the successful roll-out of offshore wind.
Health and safety is "absolutely fundamental" to offshore wind being deployed to the level required in the UK, according to Alastair Dutton from the Crown Estate.
Speaking at the RenewableUK Health and Safety 2012 conference in Manchester, he said the renewable energy sector is growing quickly, with new companies and people "joining every day".
"We must welcome them to a very strong health and safety culture as we move forward over the next decade," he added.
"Through meticulous planning and 'right first time' deployment, not only do we get excellent business performance, but we also get good health and safety practice."
His comments come as the Crown Estate and RenewableUK announce the first-ever winner of the Renewable Energy Health and Safety Award.
E.ON Climate & Renewables won the 2012 award for its shallow gas case study at the Rampion offshore project.
