Property industry welcomes planning reform announcement

Chancellor George Osborne used the Autumn Statement to indicate that the government will press ahead with its proposed planning changes and said it will reform the consenting regime, as suggested in the Penfold Review. The changes could have consequences for many communities, as well as businesses using a property development solicitor. Commenting on the proposals, Liz Peace, chief executive of the British Property Federation, said: "We're delighted to see the recommendations in the Penfold Review put into place, particularly the encouragement on key consenting and advisory agencies to promote sustainable development."
She explained that non-planning consents are an important aspect of every development project. Difficulties incurred with obtaining planning permission and non-planning consents can "discourage the smooth progression of development schemes and in some instances, prevent them from happening", added Ms Peace. The announcement by the Chancellor comes after the localism bill became law, introducing a raft of reforms to the planning regime. Posted by Georgina Price
