Divorce rate in over-60s on the rise

The number of people over the age of 60 seeking advice on family law, mediation and relationships is on the rise.
New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveal the over-60 divorce rate has shot up in recent years.
More than 11,500 people in this age bracket were granted a divorce in 2009, up four per cent in just two years.
It is in marked contrast to the 11 per cent fall in the divorce rate for all age groups.
Dr Ros Altmann, director-general of Saga, said the figures signal a "major social revolution". "This is more proof that life is really changing for the over-60s and for many it's the start of the next phase of their lives, not the end," she added.
A recent study from the ONS suggested that a rise in cohabitation before marriage is helping to keep the overall divorce down.
The authors said cohabitation is acting as a "marital firewall" the prevents rocky relationships progressing to marriage and then divorce.
