TUPE Regulation faces reform

Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) - TUPE Regulation - will be simplified as part of the government's swipe at employment law.
As one of a number of planned changes announced by business secretary Vince Cable, TUPE Regulation, which protects the pay and conditions of workers transferred between companies, will be reformed to ease the burden on businesses.
The government will consult on rules for collective redundancies and whether the current 90-day minimum period for more than 100 redundancies can be reduced.
It will also close a "loophole" that allows employees to blow the whistle about their own personal work contract.
A universally portable Criminal Records Bureau check that can be viewed by employers online will be introduced from early 2013.
Unions attacked the proposals and said they would do nothing to create jobs.
Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said: "Ministers are hell-bent on removing long-established rights at work, making dismissal easier and promoting a culture of fear in the workplace."
However, Mr Cable argued that the proposals "strike an appropriate balance", adding that "necessary protections" for employees will not be affected.
The government also set out measures to change the employment tribunal system to make it tougher on workers to sue their bosses.
