Service personnel urged to make a will

Armed forces personnel need more support with wills and inheritance tax planning, it has been claimed.
Conservative MP for Salisbury John Glen thinks efforts must be improved to ensure men and women going to war are prepared for their death or injury.
Service personnel are advised to make a will in pre-deployment briefings, he conceded, however, there is no advice given, nor any requirement to do so.
"Little information is given to those serving on the risk of mental incapacity following a tour of duty, or on the fact that if there are such complications, the management of financial affairs will not be sufficiently dealt with by a will," Mr Glen added.
If they were to suffer any form of mental incapacity, they would need to register a power of attorney before setting off to make it valid, he noted.
The MP also highlighted the feeling of "invincibility" that some members of the armed forces feel before going on tour, which makes them believe that a will is unnecessary.
Some 388 British service personnel have been killed in action in Afghanistan since operations began in 2001.
