Two fined £13,000 for scaffolding collapse

Two partners of a company that erected scaffolding that collapsed to the ground have been fined £13,000.
Terrence Foster, of Scaffolding Systems South West, was fined £8,000 and his partner in the business, Shaun Greenslade, was fined £5,000 in a case that highlights the causes of accidents that lead to people seeking help from a personal injury lawyer in Southampton.
The prosecution followed an incident in 2009 when a large section of scaffolding put up at an Exeter builders' merchants fell away from the building in high winds.
Parked cars were seriously damaged and the incident could easily have led to injuries or even death, according to Health and Safety Executive inspector Andrew Kingscott.
"The degree of risk and danger to workers and the public was considerable. The standard of the scaffold as installed fell far short of the appropriate level," he added. "This incident could easily have led to human tragedy."
It comes after the David Knowles, 54, the director of a scaffolding company from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, was fined after a roofing contractor was injured during a scaffold collapse.
