Critical illness cover 'increasingly important'

Critical illness cover is becoming increasingly important to people who are left unable to go to work, according to LV=. People who suffer an accident at work and need help financially can benefit from these schemes, in addition to seeking compensation with the help of a personal injury lawyer in Southampton. Chris McNab, product manager at LV=, explains that critical illness cover will help with the cost of living, medical treatment or to adapt a home if someone is left with a disability. "As people are living longer and advancements in medical science mean that we are surviving more illnesses - cover like critical illness becomes increasingly important," he adds. Most critical illness policies also automatically cover children and pay out a proportion of the total sum assured if a child were to suffer an illness, Mr McNab says. He notes that this can be particularly useful for parents who need to take time off work to care for an ill child, as this can fall outside of many employers' sick pay schemes. The comments come as new research shows stress-related mental ill health is the most common cause of long-term absence for almost one in six employers. Carried out by Group Risk Development, the study findings were published to mark Stress Awareness Day, which takes place today (November 2nd). Posted by Georgina Price
