Govt mulls support for daylight savings bill

The government may lend its support to a private members bill that is calling for the clocks in the UK to advance by one hour throughout the year.
It follows calls from road safety charities to move to a system of GMT+1 in winter and GMT+2 in summer.
Such a move would cut road accidents, it is claimed, which could in turn see fewer people need the help of a personal injury lawyer in Southampton.
Business minister Edward Davey said the government would "not rush in" to making any firm decisions on the daylight savings bill.
Support from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland would be required before any changes could be made, he added.
"Lower road deaths, reduced carbon dioxide emissions and improved health have all been argued over the years as possible benefits," Mr Davey said.
A survey from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents suggests there is strong public support, with 92 per cent of people saying they would like to see an extra hour of evening daylight.
Road safety charity Brake says putting the clocks forward would save around 450 lives every year.
