Adrian Smith, 40, is launching legal action against Trafford Housing Trust over its decision to impose a 40 per cent pay cut on him after complaints were received from colleagues.
He is suing for breach of contract and for interference with his rights to free speech and religious liberty.
The Trust accused Mr Smith of gross misconduct after he posted a link to the BBC website story entitled "Gay church marriages get go ahead", with the comment "an equality too far".
Mike Judge from The Christian Institute, which is supporting the legal action, suggested a "witch hunt" had taken place because of Mr Smith's religious views.
"The comments certainly don't amount to gross misconduct, which is usually reserved for things like theft or fraud," he added.

It comes after a woman sacked for posting comments about her employer on Facebook won her case for unfair dismissal.
