Brits in the dark about wills and inheritance tax planning

A new survey reveals millions of Brits are in the dark when it comes to wills and inheritance tax planning.
Research indicates that 29.5 million people in the UK have yet to make a will, with one in ten of those wrongly believing that their estate will automatically go to the right people.
The study from Unbiased.co.uk also points to concerning numbers of older people without a will.
One in three of those polled over the age the 55 do not have a will, despite having sizeable assets to pass on. Indeed, one in five Brits have at least £10,000 to leave when they die.
Chief executive at the website Karen Barrett says that while thinking about death is unpleasant, it is "hugely important" to prepare for the eventuality.
"Our research clearly shows that the nation is gripped by wills apathy, whether that is putting it off until they are older or incorrectly believing their estate will automatically go to the right people," she adds.
It follows a study from Aviva that found nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) of Britons have not or would not discuss inheritance issues with their parents, in spite of 40 per cent expecting to receive something.
