Scaffold fall from height reminds contractors of obligations

Building contractors are being reminded that they have an obligation to protect workers, following the type of accident the leads people to seek advice from a personal injury lawyer in Southampton. Andrew Mark Judge, trading as Panther Scaffolding, was prosecuted after a joiner broke his leg when he fell more than four metres to the ground. A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation revealed that the Mr Judge had failed to ensure that the scaffolding had been properly erected the day before. HSE inspector Martin Giles said: "Work at height remains a major cause of injury and fatalities in the workplace and for this reason it is important that, where such work is undertaken, then appropriate planning, supervision and safety measures are essential. He noted that it is even more important when members of the public could also be put at risk. Falls from height remain a major cause of workplace accidents, accounting for nearly 7,000 reportable injuries in 2009/10, according to HSE figures. Posted by Paul Stevens
