Widow wins asbestos death compensation claim

A widow has been awarded over £250,000 after seeking help from an asbestosis lawyer following the death of her husband.

Elizabeth Wolff's husband William died from mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos while working as a joiner.

Mr Wolff's employer Weir Construction admitted that his death was the result of negligent exposure to asbestos dust.

After he was diagnosed with the illness, Mrs Wolff quit her job as a hospital social worker to look after her husband.

Judge Lord Doherty said: "It is very clear to me that she did her utmost throughout the deceased's illness to meet all his needs and that as the illness progressed this became increasingly demanding."

The couple's three daughters and one granddaughter were also awarded compensation by the judge at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

Asbestos remains one the biggest killers in the UK, accounting for around 4,000 deaths per year, according to figures from the Health and Safety Executive.
