Employers warned ahead of AWR implementation

Bosses who fail to get to grips with Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) could face a £5,000 fine, conciliation service Acas has said. Companies, which can speak to an employment law solicitor service for help if they need clarification, were warned ahead of the implementation of the new rules on October 1st. The new legislation gives temporary workers the same basic rights to pay, working conditions and holidays as employees once they have spent 12 weeks in the same role. A recent study for the Recruitment and Employment Confederation revealed that only one in ten employers was prepared for the law. John Taylor, Acas chief executive, said: "Businesses really need to make sure that they have a handle on these changes. It's not something to think about down the line and get it wrong, as it can be costly to your business. He also warned employers about trying to get round the regulations by hiring and rehiring temps on a succession of shorter periods. Posted by Alex McLean
