Manufacturers targeting strategic acquisitions to drive growth

More manufacturing firms will be turning to mergers and acquisitions solicitor services over the coming two years, a new report suggests.
Large global manufacturers are aiming to drive top-line growth through strategic acquisitions and alliances, according to KPMG.
The consultancy firm also says companies in the sector will target new products, innovation and increased production capacity as a means to grow.
KPMG's 2011 Global Manufacturing Outlook reveals a "clear shift" from the strategies of the last two years, which saw top-line growth and cost containment as equally important.
Jeff Dobbs, global head of diversified industrials at the firm, commented: "The lessons learned from the economic uncertainty, political instability, and historic natural disasters of the past few years have taught companies they can survive these challenges with lean agile operating structures, enhanced risk management practices, and a focus on innovation."
It comes in the same week as significant changes to rules governing mergers and acquisitions in the UK take effect.
Under the new regime, target companies will have to name their would-be acquirers, who then have a 28-day "put-up or shut-up" deadline to make a formal offer.
