Risk management 'vital' in clinical and care settings

Good health and safety risk management in clinical and care settings is "vital" to avoid accidents, it is claimed.
According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, good practices are essential not just for routine accidents, but also for the kind of incidents that can result in a patient needing help from a professional negligence solicitor service.
Fires, slips and trips, transport accidents, injuries due to poor manual handling or threats and violence to staff are all areas that can be addressed by an effective health and safety strategy, explains Roger Bibbings, occupational safety adviser at the charity.
"Good risk management is not simply part of a wider duty of care but makes very good business sense and engages staff and helps to support a culture of excellence and professionalism," he adds.
His comments come as new figures from the National Patient Safety Agency show the number of patient safety incidents in England that occurred between October 1st 2010 and March 31st 2011 increased by 8.5 per cent compared to the previous 12-month period.
