Cities to be given more power over property development

Cities across the UK have been invited to submit their cases for new powers from central government to drive faster growth under new clauses to the Localism Bill, which could see higher demand ahead for property development solicitors.
Under the bill, city leaders can bid for the ability to promote economic growth by setting their own policies, paving the way for more development and a more coordinated approach to local investment.
Independent forecasts suggest that if core cities, including Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester, were given greater freedoms they would be able to deliver an additional one million jobs and £44 billion to the economy over the next decade.
"We are determined to see UK cities given greater control over their economic destiny, allowing them to compete on the global stage," said cities minister Greg Clark.
It follows the government's plan to roll out a number of enterprise zones in cities around the UK, in a bid to stimulate the economy.
