'Cost of dying' rises by £400

Costs related to the end of life, such as hiring a probate solicitor and making a will as well as funerals, headstones and wakes, have risen by £400 in the last year, research has revealed.
The Cost of Dying report, commissioned by Sun Life Direct, found that end of life costs have increased by 20 per cent to an average of £7,248 since 2007.
Meanwhile, the study showed that many people fail to make financial provisions for their death, with one quarter of people admitting they have made no plans for later life.
"Apart from writing a will, telling family and friends is the most common way in which respondents prepared for the end of their lives, similarly 44 per cent of people indicated that they had not planned for their funeral," said Simon Cox, head of life planning for Sun Life Direct.
In response to the study, the Daily Telegraph published a list of five things everyone should consider before they die, including enlisting a probate solicitor to administer your estate.
