HSE changes incident reporting procedures

Employers are required to report non-fatal and non-major health and safety incidents using online RIDDOR forms from today (September 12th).

New regulatory changes mean that only fatal and major injuries or incidents need to be reported by phone to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The regulator will also begin referring organisations and individuals seeking guidance to the HSE website from September 30th, when the Infoline will be wound down.

HSE director of strategy Trevor Carlile explained that the website is already the most popular HSE service.

He added: "The new forms are intuitive and quick and easy to complete.

"The most important thing is that there will still be somebody at the end of the phone to assist those who are reporting a traumatic event that has resulted in a death or major injury."

There are a total of seven online forms, each dedicated to different types of incident, from injuries to specific dangerous flammable gas incidents.
