Employees urged to take 'direct action' over cuts

The head of the Unite union has called on employees to take "direct action" to prompt government action over cuts across the public sector.
Len McCluskey, leader of the UK's biggest union, suggested that no form of protest should be ruled out in an effort to draw further attention to commercial dispute resolution issues emerging off the back of government cut backs.
Speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show, Mr McCluskey described many proposed workplace changes as an attack, calling on workers to facilitate a campaign of resistance to force minister to take stock and "take a step back from" their employment and pensions austerity measures.
"Every conceivable form of protest and action should be carefully considered, from civil disobedience through to co-ordinated industrial strikes," he added.
Mr McCluskey is due to speak in a debate on trade union rights on the opening day of the TUC Congress 2011 conference taking place today (September 12th).
