Businesses unaware of AWR changes

Many businesses in the UK may need help from an employment law solicitor service to understand new legislation that takes effect on October 1st.

Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) come into force in little under a month, yet a quarter (23 per cent) of employers remain unaware of the legislation, a new survey has found.

The poll from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) also found that 44 per cent of businesses are still undecided about the changes they will make to their workforce ahead of the implementation date.

Just 14 per cent of employers said they will definitely make staffing changes as a result of AWR.

REC director of policy and professional services Tom Hadley believes agency workers will continue to play a critical role for employers.

He noted, however, that there is considerable scope to raise awareness of what AWR will mean to job holders.

"Despite some alarmist media stories on the potential impact, the latest data supports the view that the AWR will be workable in most sectors," he added.
