Small businesses 'ill informed' of employment legislation changes

Small businesses are not staying abreast of changes to rules affecting when a worker contacts an employment law solicitor service. A survey from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) reveals 40 per cent of micro firms - those with fewer than ten employees - feel they are well informed about employment legislation reforms. The report also shows 39 per cent of these firms believe the rules around dismissal are extremely or fairly burdensome. Over half (55 per cent) the 2,000 micro firms surveyed say they plan to take on more staff by 2015, but 50 per cent find it difficult to get the right workers. Dr Adam Marshall, director of policy at the BCC, said that "for too many firms, burdensome employment legislation deters them from taking on staff in the first place".
It comes as the organisation calls on the government to do more to help create private sector jobs, following a rise in the number of people out of work.
