Over 5,000 women 'missing from top jobs'

Thousands of women may have grounds to seek advice from an employment discrimination claim solicitor, a new report suggests. The Equality and Human Rights Commission study claims there is a continuing trend of women being "passed over" for top jobs at UK firms, with more than 5,400 "missing" from Britain's 26,000 most powerful roles. At the current rate of change it will take around 70 years to reach an equal number of men and women directors of FTSE 100 companies, the report reveals. It also found it could be up to 70 years before there are an equal number of women MPs in parliament, equivalent to another 14 general elections. Commissioner Kay Carberry said: "The gender balance at the top has not changed much in three years, despite there being more women graduating from university and occupying middle management roles." It comes as proposals to force larger firms to report on diversity gather momentum, following Lord Davies' report on how listed companies could increase female presence on boards by setting their own targets.
