Safe workplace 'reduces possibility of accidents'

Employers have been urged to prioritise safety in the workplace in order to prevent staff from having accidents at work.
According to the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Iosh), firms should ensure they take simple steps to eliminate dangers in the workplace through methods such as training staff in health and safety best practice and teaching them basic housekeeping skills.
Jill Joyce, senior policy and technical advisor at Iosh, pointed out that not only will a secure working environment improve the safety of workers, but it will also help firms minimise damage to their bottom lines.
"As well as being taught good housekeeping techniques and to report problems that may add unnecessary risk to the workplace, working environments could potentially be altered," Ms Joyce added.
Amy Paxton, senior employment consultant at Croner, recently warned employers that they could face a deluge of personal injury claims if they do not address staffing issues and lower the employee's workloads.
