AXA calls for tighter personal injury regulations

Insurance firm AXA has called for tighter industry regulations to prevent fraudulent personal injury claims.
The company said measures are required to increase the burden of proof for whiplash personal injury claims and more comprehensive medical evaluation of muscle damage following low-impact traffic accidents is needed.
Paul Evans, group chief executive of AXA UK and Ireland, said revising the way personal injuries are assessed and dealt with will enable spurious claims to be rejected without having to incur unnecessary costs and improve the process as a whole.
"Such an evaluation will help deepen our understanding of minor soft tissue injuries and provide the basis for better diagnosis so those who are injured by the negligent acts of others receive the timely and fair compensation they are due," Mr Evans said.
Statistics from the Department for Transport reveal that the number of road traffic accidents involving personal injury has fallen by ten per cent over the past three years.
