Network Rail seeks compensation from Thames Water

Network Rail has launched a compensation claim against Thames Water after a burst pipe interrupted travel for commuters.
The transport company said it will be seeking a seven-figure sum from Thames Water, although the exact amount was not disclosed, reports Utility Week.
The single burst pipe caused a landslide at South Croydon station on Monday August 1st, causing delays for thousands of commuters who were travelling from Victoria on the Gatwick Express, First Capital Connect and Southern services.
A spokesman for Network Rail told Utility Week: "The damages caused here were not our fault, but due to the delays in services we have had to compensate the train companies. We are therefore seeking compensation from Thames Water for a failure of its infrastructure."
Jill Joyce, senior policy and technical advisor at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, recently highlighted the importance of anti-slip matting in helping to protect members of the public, as well as employees from slipping on wet surfaces.
