Printers fined after accident at work

A successful personal injury claim has led to a printing company being fined for failing to provide a safe working environment for its staff.
Ancient House Press was ordered to pay £7,500 after employee John Stagg, 40, suffered a severed middle finger and a broken index finger while using an unguarded stacking machine.
Mr Stagg's severe personal injuries required him to have plastic surgery and he was unable to return to work for seven months.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) revealed that the stacking machine was missing a guard that would have prevented access to the underside of the machine, while 20 other safety devices and guards on various machines on the side were found to be missing.
Ancient House Press was subsequently found guilty of breaching the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations at Ipswich Magistrates' Court.
The HSE recently fined parcel company Tufnells Parcels Express for neglecting its duty to provide a safe working environment, which led to an employee suffering a fractured skull.
