Women 'have broken the glass ceiling'

Women have broken the glass ceiling and face far fewer barriers in the workplace, HR directors have said, though problems remain that could see some seek help from an employment discrimination claim solicitor. Over three quarters (78 per cent) of respondents to a survey from Robert Half do not believe that women face disadvantages at work. Based on interviews with more than 180 HR directors in UK companies, the study does suggest, however, that concerns remain. A fifth (22 per cent) said they do face problems at work, with half of these attributing family commitments to why they are failing to progress. Phil Sheridan, managing director of the firm behind the figures, said: "Companies should regularly review their succession and remuneration plans to ensure that women are treated fairly and equally, with policies to take into account their family and personal commitments." Shilpa Wymer, managing director at Holborn Training, recently said that there will always be a difference in pay for men and women, but maintained that it is "to do with the child issue".
