Third of major workplace injuries caused by slips

Slips and trips are a leading cause of why people may need help assistance from a personal injury lawyer in Southampton. A recent survey from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Iosh) and the Health and Safety Executive revealed that a third of all major injuries in the workplace are down to slips, trips or falls. These types of incidents account for a fifth of injuries lasting more than three days, according to Iosh senior policy and technical advisor Jill Joyce. She notes that this is costing businesses around £520 million a year, but such accidents are far from unavoidable. "Employers and employees can both take precautions to help reduce the likelihood of an accident resulting from a slip, trip or fall," Ms Joyce explained. "It is a known fact that where accident prevention techniques have been employed, injuries can be cut by up to 50 per cent." Her comments come as the Iosh urges the Lofstedt review of health and safety law to exercise caution when merging regulations, noting that this could weaken employers' responsibilities.
