Employers urged to prevent disability discrimination

Businesses are being encouraged to employ disabled people in an effort to combat discrimination.
Minister for disabled people Maria Miller said that half of those with disabilities are currently out of work, with many who do have jobs operating well below their potential.
"That is why I am urging employers to look hard at their recruitment and work practices to make sure they don't miss out on the extensive talents of disabled people," she explained.
People who feel they are the victim of prejudice may wish to contact an employment discrimination claim solicitor, with Department for Work and Pensions statistics showing that disabled people are much less likely to achieve a senior role in an organisation.
According to the figures, a non-disabled person is three times as likely to earn more than £80,000 a year.
A recent report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission found there may be gaps in the careers advice system for disabled people, with many feeling it does not meet their requirements.
