Construction workers urged to attend safety events

Construction workers are being encouraged to attend an event that could make them less likely to require a personal injury lawyer in Southampton.
They have been urged to take part in one of a series of free seminars on the Isle of Wight that aim to improve standards and prevent workplace injuries.
It comes as new figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reveal that there were 50 fatalities in the construction sector over the last year, more than any other industry.
Organised by Working Well Together and supported by the HSE, the events on July 20th and 21st are targeted specifically at small construction firms.
Topics will include the safe handling of asbestos, as there have been several recent cases where people have had to seek help from an asbestosis lawyer because of exposure to the material
"These events will be an excellent opportunity for local businesses to get practical advice on how to take action to avoid people being killed, injured or suffering ill health as a result of construction activities," commented HSE principal inspector Charles Gilby.
