OFT guidance to improve competition law compliance

Businesses engaging a mergers and acquisitions solicitor service are set to benefit from new guidance on competition law compliance. The Office of fair Trading (OFT) has published two new documents that will ensure firms are better able to navigate the regulatory landscape. It follows a survey revealing that one in four British companies claim they know "a lot" or "a fair amount" about competition rules. Although this is up on previous numbers, the OFT stressed there is a long way to go, particularly for smaller enterprises. The first document, How Your Business Can Achieve Compliance, sets out the OFT's recommended risk-based, four-step approach to creating a culture of competition law compliance. Company Directors and Competition Law, meanwhile, outlines the responsibilities of company directors. John Fingleton, OFT chief executive, commented: "The guidance documents published today are intended to support businesses and company directors by providing practical guidance on the steps they can take in order to comply with competition law." It comes after the OFT advised the Competition Commission that the Domestic Electrical Goods Order and associated undertakings, which cover everyday goods such as televisions and washing machines, can be removed. This order had been brought in to improve competition by preventing suppliers from recommending resale prices or otherwise influencing how much items were sold for. Posted by Alex McLean
