Accident at work at Southport shopfitting company

An employee of a Southport-based shopfitting company may be looking for an accident at work solicitor after one of his fingers was severed by a rotating saw. Darren Mawdsley was cutting oak plants when his index finger was pulled into the machine, while the guard for the saw was resting on a table nearby. Although an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that employer Mentha and Halsall Shopfitters had carried out a risk assessment, it had not been passed on to workers, and no training had been given on using the machine. "Good health and safety isn’t about filling in forms," said HSE inspector Phil Redman. "It was pointless for the company to carry out a risk assessment if they weren’t going to pass it on to their staff." It follows a similar incident in which a cleaner lost two fingers in a potato processing machine at a Telford factory, and may now be seeking an accident at work solicitor. Posted by Alex McLean
