Family law changes must be 'carefully considered'

Changes to the rules regarding family law, mediation and relationships, which are designed to put children at the heart of the justice system, need to be carefully considered before they go ahead.
This month, the independent Family Justice Review panel released a report that recommended the establishment of a Family Justice Service sponsored by the Ministry of Justice.
Judy Reith, parenting coach at parentingpeople.co.uk, said it is crucial that children are not made to feel responsible in any way for what is happening between their parents.
"[Parents] need to do everything they possibly can to communicate in a way that is calm and effective for progress rather than harm to the life of the children going forward," she added.
"Seek mediation, if you really cannot have a civilised conversation about arrangements."
She went on to say that a lot also depends on what the age range of the children is, as different ages will interpret changes in different ways.
