Landlord guide for insolvent tenants published

A new guide for landlords employing a commercial property solicitor has been published to help them deal with distressed or insolvent tenants.
The online tool sets out ways in which landlords can approach struggling tenants through six documents.
Published jointly by the British Property Federation (BPF) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the guide covers six insolvency procedures, including administrative receivership, pre-packed administration, standard administration, company voluntary arrangement (CVA), insolvent scheme and liquidation.
Mike Jervis, real estate business recovery partner at PwC, noted that landlords play an important role when a business needs to call in an insolvency lawyer and can be "key" to the survival of that company.
"The guide for landlords is a user-friendly and comprehensive look at the approach landlords may want to take when faced with a distressed or insolvent tenant," he said.
Mr Jervis added: "Given the current volume of distressed retailers, this collaboration with the BPF is very timely."
Meanwhile, the BPF has said concerns remain over the ability of the localism bill to encourage development despite government pledges that growth would be put at the heart of the planning system.
