Hire health and safety consultants to cope with red tape, firms told

Businesses looking to avoid employees requiring an accident at work solicitor have been advised to hire health and safety consultants.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) suggests that businesses "need outside help to deal with complex risk issues which lie outside their expertise".
A recent report from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) revealed nearly half (47 per cent) of businesses see health and safety law as a burden.
The BCC is calling for regulation to be "industry specific", with rules tailored to the risk level of the workplace.
In addition, it wants regulations to be simplified and for there to be a review of how the UK implements European Union directives.
Meanwhile, a fifth of sole traders identified health and safety regulation as a barrier to taking on their first employee.
Roger Bibbings, occupational safety adviser at RoSPA, said businesses "may choose to use consultants as independent advisers to help with investigations, reviews or audits, or to help develop training programmes".
