Residential property conveyancing boosted as prices rise

The residential property conveyancing market may have seen a boost in April as house prices rose. New data from the Land Registry reveals that the average property price rose 0.8 per cent during the month. The average cost of buying a home in England and Wales now stands at £163,083. Over the last year, prices have actually fallen by 1.3 per cent across the country, though London in particular bucked this trend to register a five per cent gain over the last 12 months. However, the most up-to-date figures available show a drop in activity in the residential property conveyancing market during February, with the number of completed house sales in England and Wales falling by ten per cent to 38,336 from 42,515 in the same month in 2010. It comes as research commissioned by Halifax and produced by the National Centre for Social Research found that nearly half of 20 to 45-year-olds predict Britain will become a nation of renters within the next generation.
