Trustworthy person 'vital' for Lasting Power of Attorney

Appointing someone trustworthy to administer a Lasting Power of Attorney is essential, Saga has stressed.
The organisation notes that a Lasting Power of Attorney gives someone the right to access and spend another's assets and money, which could lead to problems if that power is abused.
It comes after the case of Douglas Latham, 55, of Hillman Close, Bracebridge Heath, who was jailed earlier this year for stealing over £100,000 from an elderly friend after being given control of her finances, the Lincolnshire Echo reported.
Alex Edmans, product manager at Saga, advised: "If you do have any issues on the trustworthiness of somebody, or you are worried about being taken advantage of then what you could do is appoint more than one attorney."
She also stressed that the forms for establishing a Lasting Power of Attorney can be "complicated and quite cumbersome".
If anyone is unsure or not confident about doing this themselves, she recommended they speak to a solicitor.
