Health and safety review calls for evidence

The government is calling for evidence for its review of rules affecting businesses and employees looking for an accident at work solicitor.

Proposals to overhaul health and safety laws are being examined in the Loftstedt Review, which is now seeking evidence from companies.

The review will look at the Health and Safety Executive's 200 statutory instruments, as well as examples of where the law has gone beyond the scope of requirements of a European Union directive.

It will also consider examples of where laws have resulted in "inappropriate" litigation and compensation.

Employment minister Chris Grayling said: "The Health and Safety at Work etc Act remains an effective framework. However we need to put common sense back into health and safety and ease the burdens on business."

It comes as a new survey of UK companies reveals almost half (47 per cent) believe that current health and safety legislation is a burden.

The British Chambers of Commerce poll also showed that a fifth of sole traders identified health and safety regulation as a barrier to taking on their first employee.
