Ministers extend partnership to beat insolvency

Ministers have extended a partnership between R3 and JobCentre Plus that is helping people facing redundancy stave off personal insolvency. According to R3, the Association of Business Recovery Professionals, the scheme has already helped 32,000 people find new jobs, claim benefits and access training. Initially set up by Phil Wilson, the MP for Sedgefield, the partnership facilitates close working between Jobcentre Plus and R3, which also represents corporate insolvency practitioners. Under the scheme, insolvency practitioners give "early warning" of impending redundancies to Jobcentre Plus when they can. A new memorandum of understanding designed to foster closer ties will be signed by Chris Grayling, the minister for employment, and Edward Davey, minister for employment relations. R3 President, Frances Coulson said: "The insolvency profession sees the human cost of business failure on a daily basis. The memorandum helps us to work with expert government agencies to ensure that those facing redundancy are given as much support as possible at a very distressing time." It comes after Scottish Widows revealed that a third of people in the UK believe they would not be able to cope financially if their household's main income were lost. Posted by Paul Stevens
