Govt plans TUPE Regulation review

The government plans to extend the scope of its review of "burdensome" employment laws to cover TUPE Regulation.
TUPE, or Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations, governs the handling of employees when a company is transferred from one owner to another.
The government will also expand the review of rules affecting people looking for an unfair dismissal compensation claim solicitor by seeking to reduce compensation payouts.
In addition, ministers will review laws affecting collective redundancies that mean employers must submit to a 90-day consultation period before workers can be sacked.
Liberal Democrat employment minister Ed Davey said: "The areas we are reviewing are priorities for employers. We want to make it easier for businesses to take on staff and grow."
It comes after the government said it will increase the threshold for launching an unfair dismissal claim from one year to two, as well as introduce measures to tackle vexatious claims.
The Institute of Directors said last month that this approach did not go far enough and called for a more a radical overhaul of the employment tribunal system.
