Wishaw resident keen to reduce local road accident risk

A local resident in Wishaw, South Lanarkshire is taking action to improve road safety measures in his area, which could reduce the chance of head and spinal injury claims. Brian Gray has called on local authorities to investigate the safety of a junction at Pather Street in the town centre, reports the Wishaw Press. He told the newspaper: "There are several accidents here each year – in fact there was another on the day that we had our narrow escape – and I find it incredible that no action has been taken to address this highly dangerous situation. "Something needs to be done and quickly – before someone is seriously injured." The government recently took action to improve road safety in a number of areas, including Cambridgeshire and Oldham. Local and regional transport minister Norman Baker announced over £430 million in funding for new street lighting and road signs in a total of six local authorities. Posted by Alex McLean
