Personal injury concerns 'should not hinder royal wedding celebrations'

Organisations and individuals keen to avoid a personal injury claim during any planned royal wedding celebrations over the next few weeks have been advised to plan for any risks in advance.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published a simple guide to help those organising parties to understand the dos and don'ts.
Firstly, the inspectorate notes that there is rarely any obligation under health and safety law for parties.
However, there are a number of advisable precautions. Establishing an appropriate size of venue is key, as it will enable organisers to work out whether any extra precautions need to be taken.
Other risks that need prior consideration, particularly for street parties, are whether or not measures need to be taken to protect guests from traffic, or whether extra permission is required from a local council.
The HSE also advises organisers to challenge anyone who claims they cannot proceed because of health and safety reasons, finding out exactly what the objection is within the appropriate context.
