Workplace hearing loss made worse by daily noise

People making an industrial deafness compensation claim could find there are just as many risks in the household as at work.
MP3 players are a particular concern, with an increasing number of people listening to music on-the-go.
According to the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID), people's day-to-day lives are becoming noisier.
Emma Harrison, a campaigner at the charity, warns that a combination of noisy bars and clubs and listening to MP3 players could be putting people's hearing at risk.
She said there needs to be greater awareness that anything which is really loud could potentially damage hearing.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has information for anyone who thinks there work may be adding to the risk of hearing loss.
It advises that employers have a duty of care to protect workers' hearing and must take action if a workplace is noisy.
The HSE also warns that, apart from becoming deaf, people can suffer permanent tinnitus, which once noticed is too late to repair.
