Renewable energy mergers and acquisitions increase

More firms in the UK could be using a mergers and acquisitions solicitor service as a report reveals activity in the renewable energy sector has risen.
According to the study from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), mergers and acquisitions activity in the renewable energy sector increased sharply last year, with the US driving the upsurge.
In the UK, renewable energy deals were worth just under $1.5 billion (£938 million), accounting for 11 per cent of transaction values in Europe.
In Europe as a whole, the number of mergers and acquisitions rose 50 per cent, though the value fell by over half to $13 billion (£8.1 billion).
Meanwhile, North American deal volumes rose 71 per cent, with the value of these transactions up 43 per cent to $12.9 billion (£8 billion).
The authors of report note that one of the key changes in the market is the diversification of nuclear firms into the renewables market.
Ronan O'Regan, director of renewables and cleantech at PwC, said: "Strong confidence has come back to the market after financing issues caused the sector real problems in 2008 and 2009.
"In addition, in 2010 buyers and sellers expectations are more realistic, which has supported higher deal volumes."
Meanwhile, the Office for National Statistics reports that the value of all mergers and acquisitions in the UK fell to a 15-year low in 2010.
