Event to help Hampshire farmers avoid personal injury claim

Farmers in Hampshire are being urged to attend a free event tomorrow (March 22nd) that could help them avoid facing a workplace accident compensation claim.
In 2009/10, there were 48 major injuries reported in the agriculture industry in Hampshire, including one fatality.
The event will feature practical safety demonstrations dealing with common causes of injury in farming.
Transport and machine maintenance, safe working at height, chemical use and manual handling will be some of the topics covered at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) event.
There will also be hints and tips on cheap safety precautions that farmers can take to avoid a personal injury claim.
Steve Hull from the HSE noted that there are proportionally more work-related deaths in agriculture than in any other industry.
"This event will be an excellent opportunity for local farmers to get practical advice on how to take action to avoid people being killed, injured or taken ill on their farm," he said.
It comes after UK Hops Ltd was fined after a farm worker suffered a serious injury in a hop press in Suffolk.
