Arcadia fined for Topshop asbestos leaks

Retail giant Arcadia could be facing an asbestos compensation claim after the company failed to control the material properly.
The firm, along with shopfitting business Vincents, was fined after construction workers were exposed to asbestos at a Topshop store in Liverpool.
Liverpool Magistrates' Court heard how workers were exposed to the potentially deadly substance as they removed air conditioning and sprinklers at the shop on Church Street.
The refurbishment work went ahead despite a survey revealing that asbestos was present on the site.
Warren Pennington, the investigating Health and Safety Executive inspector, said it was "shocking" that people were exposed to asbestos fibres.
He explained that neither firm took adequate measures to prevent workers being exposed to the asbestos that was known to be present.
"The refurbishment work on the first floor was likely to disturb the asbestos and so a licensed specialist contractor should have carried it out," Mr Pennington added.
It comes after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the families of two women who died from mesothelioma caused by exposure to asbestos.
