Families win landmark asbestos compensation claim

Two families have won a landmark asbestos compensation claim after loved ones died from exposure to the lethal material in Merseyside.
The Supreme Court ruled in favour of the relatives of Dianne Willmore and Enid Costello, who both died from malignant mesothelioma.
Mrs Willmore died at the age of 49 after being exposed to asbestos while a pupil at Bowring Comprehensive School in Merseyside.
A judge at Liverpool High Court supported her asbestos compensation claim, awarding her £240,000. She subsequently died the day after the Court of Appeal upheld her case.
Mrs Costello, meanwhile, died aged 74 following asbestos exposure when she worked at a packaging factory in Ellesmere Port.
It is thought the Supreme Court ruling could lead to more families making similar claims.
The news comes as the Health and Safety Executive, an active campaigner against asbestos exposure, reports that Shengxuan Company Ltd has been fined after it pleaded guilty to offences relating to the material.
