Southampton City Council Unite to reject pay cuts

An employment law solicitor service providing mediation services may be required to end a stand-off between workers and employers at Southampton City Council.
Unite members at the local authority have overwhelmingly rejected pay cuts proposed by the Conservative-led council.
Eighty-seven per cent voted against plans for all employees to face reductions in salaries of up to 5.5 per cent and a blanket two-year pay freeze.
Unite is warning the council that it may take industrial action if the local authority seeks to enforce the measures by dismissing the entire workforce and re-hiring them on worse financial packages.
Mark Wood, Unite convenor, stated: “This ballot result is a resounding rejection of the proposals. Unite's position is mirrored by all the other unions so far. It's a clear message to the council leaders to engage with the unions to find a fairer way forward."
Meanwhile, Unite members at British Airways are taking part in the fourth strike ballot in two years after the union rejected the latest offer from bosses.
