Residential property conveyancing boost as house prices rise

Residential property conveyancing has received a boost as house prices increased between December 2010 and January 2011.
The average value of houses rose 0.2 per cent, though prices are still 0.9 per cent down on January 2010, according to new data from the Land Registry.
It means the average cost of buying a home in England and Wales is £163,177, though this figure is skewed by marked regional variations.
Prices in London rose 2.4 per cent over the year, while the capital, like the south-west, saw a 1.6 per cent increase between December and January.
Wales has seen the largest drop over the last 12 months, with average prices now 6.1 per cent below January 2010 levels.
Transactions also fell, with the number of completed house sales in November 2010 - the latest month for which data is available - down 12 per cent from the year before.
It comes after independent mortgage advisor firm John Charcol suggested that residential property conveyancing could be hit hard if interest rates rise suddenly.
