Need for litigation highlighted following violent rent arrears dispute prosecution

The importance of taking advantage of legitimate litigation and dispute resolution services has been highlighted in a recent court case.
Philip Armstrong, of Glebe Farm, Shadoxhurst, has been jailed for 18 months for causing grievous bodily harm to his sister, to whom he owed rent.
Sixty two-year-old Janet Jones broke her ankle when Mr Armstrong ran over it in his van while she lay on the ground, reports KentOnline.
Mrs Jones was also the executor of her late mother's estate and responsible for the Ashford house in which 57-year-old Mr Armstrong was tenant, before handing in his notice in the summer of 2010.
An ensuing dispute over the deposit and outstanding rent between the pair resulted in a violent confrontation, ending with Mrs Jones' leg being run over.
The National Landlords Association recently claimed that most landlords are genuinely surprised when their tenants fall into rent arrears.
